Not having a 4WD, attempted McGuire via the former Borden FSR route. No problem driving the first 700m to intersection where logs block the way to former bridge. Creek easily crossed via ATV path on left, then follow McGuire sign up road on right. The first 4km are pleasant walk through forest along switchbacks, gaining ca. 500m. The you cross the next bridgeless creek and enter clearcuts along well-maintained road... nasty in hot weather, but you do get a couple of views of surrounding mountains. It's another 3.5km along initially flattish road to collapsed bridge over Borden Creek; someone placed logs across the collapsed section, but creek is also easily crossed by rock hopping just below the bridge. Next 5km gain 550m on at times quite eroded road, until you get to the infamous 3-way junction at ca. 1480m elevation. Take the left-most road (marked with blue ribbons) here and follow to its end, where a post marks the trailhead proper. Enter meadows and subalpine forest on the right, alternately following flagging and obvious footbed. Come out onto ridge and follow it steeply to the summit. My GPS only measured ca. 1.6km from trailhead proper to summit, with 530m elevation gain. Trip took me about 10 hours at moderate pace, 28.3km return with 1873m elevation gain.
