After a great day hiking in Canmore, we wanted to check out this classic Banff hike. The creek valley was pretty shaded and chilly in the morning, with ice along the first bit of road/trail, but the trail turned to packed snow once on the proper trail. We put on micro spikes almost right away, and these were sufficient for traction the whole way. First 6-7 km are relatively unexciting, but allow you to get some gradual elevation gain in. Once you break into the larches, the rest of the hike is incredible. The larches were in their full golden glory and there was just enough snow to provide some great contrast with the larches and the blue sky. Once at the pass, the views into the Egypt Lake valley were breath-taking. Another great day out on the trails in the rockies. :) Trail was moderately busy, but less than expected considering the stellar weather.
