After spending a night camping in Chilliwack listening to the rowdies (we should have known..) my friend and I were ready for a hike with some peace and quiet.
Not wanting to drive, we chose Radium Lake since it starts from the Chilliwack Prov Park campground (park in day use area, trail starts at the "to food bridge" sign near the Radium Loop campsite.
IMO, Radium Lake is not a worthy hiking destination in its own right. See photo. It more of a wet spot than a lake. The suspension bridge along the way is fun, and a feat of trail-building engineering. A well marked and maintained trail make travel quick. We reached the lake in under 3 hours and had some lunch. Note:: 6th ed. 103 Hikes includes Radium Lake, so you may come for that reason. I enjoyed ticking it off!
After the lake, things get more fun as you ascend the Webb-Macdonald col and the views open up gloriously.
My friend scrambled Webb while I stayed at the col. I don't care much for heights at the best of times and was feeling a tad unwell as I waited too long to eat and crashed a bit coming up the steep parts from the lake.
She rated the views worth it but the rock loose and unpleasant. She made it up from the col in 20-30mins. Other parties went to Macdonald as well and told us it was more challenging due to route finding.
All in all, a good day out with some new views.
