This trail starts at the southern end of Chilliwack lake in the Ecological reserve. Beware of ticks, second pictures is bushes above my head, probably where i got that tick on my arm i removed on my way back. Tried 3 times to get to that trail past couple years, first time was snow, second time was gated abd the third time a rock slide blocked the start of the road. So finally today was good. The road that leads to the gated Depot creek bridge is about 10 km of heavily potholed fsr. Thats the road that goes straight after the end of pavement. Once around the gate you hike a logging road that eventually becomes a trail and you get to the southern beach of Chilliwack lake gives a different prospective of the lake and was amazing. It felt like the ocean with waves hitting the beach and fine white sand. Worth doing the road just for that. But the real hike starts right there in the old growth forest. Huge trees and not really travelled trail anymore. I guess most people just stop at the beach. This trail starts fine but slowly turns to nothing. Flagging tells the way but we got lost a couple of time as some flagging was erratic and didnt show any clear trail at all. So we tuned back halfway as it got tough for the kids and did not want them to have to go through the heavy bushes, wasnt much of a trail anymore even past those. I know this trail leads to the border of the US but if you want to do this then have a GPS handy and some route finding skills. Just glad to have brought the kids in that nice area. Camped and canoed the next day on the lake.
