Elk Mountain was awesome! If you're looking for a relatively short hike that is still challenging, I recommend Elk. The entire hike was a steady up hill so be prepared for that. The first 20 minutes was a nice and easy hike through the forest but as you progress higher it became wetter. After about an hour you come to a view point to your left. A lot of trees are in the way but as you keep heading up you will not be disappointed with the next view. More snow becomes visible and things become a lot more slippery. I highly recommend crampons! After about another 45 mins you have almost made it to the 2nd view but there is a narrow, snowy and extremely slippery section that you should take slowly. It curves up and to the left you are met with a beautiful view of the valley. We were greeted by a very friendly Whiskey Jack too! If you want to continue on to another spectacular view there are two paths the keep going on. One on the left through the forest and one on the right. I suggest the left. The one on the right was sketchy. One wrong slip and you could be in a lot of danger. There is an outhouse at this next view point as well as a beautiful view of Mount Baker!
