I have enjoyed hiking and backpacking since about 1979 with my wife, and three children, now all grown. We all continue to enjoy hiking adventures whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Our map showed us to a nearby parking area where East Kelowna Road crosses the creek. Here we parked the van that turned out to be at the 10.5-kilometer mark up from the trail end at Lakeshore Road. The trail is wide and well traveled on. The yellow leaves have mostly from the many deciduous trees especially the cottonwoods and poplars often covering the trail and ground completely. It was a cool cloudy day with a brisk freshness to the air. Near the Pondosy Mission at the viewing platform we stopped for a break eating granola bars and oranges. I had a tomato cheese sandwich and an apple as well. It was a good little stop.
We continued on all the way to Lakeshore Road at kilometer zero and decided we wanted to make it to the actual shore of Okanagan Lake. We found our way to the Mission Creek outlet that empties into Okanagan Lake but we could not get a view of the lake. We checked our map and found a good spot to the south at the Bluebird Road North Beach Access. The view was pretty good here where we saw the chopping water cascading into the lakeshore. We had a good view west across the Lake to Mount Boucherie, the old volcano we had hiked on several weeks back. We could see down the southwest length of the lake and Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park where are good hiking adventures we have done. We could see some of the east hills above where we had intended to bike the Myra Canyon Road. We could see the blanketing of snow and the mountaintops were shrouded in dense cold looking clouds, perhaps being dumped on with wet snow.
Having achieved our good look from the lakeshore we biked up the trail nearly non-stop watching our procedure at the kilometer or half-kilometer marks as we chattered away about whatever came to mind.
