Before hiking this trail I read a report on here from a few years ago, that spoke to the endless, boring nature of this trail. I must agree. Although there are moments on this classic singletrack through the forest that are enjoyable, overall it is seemingly endless and most dull.
After the 17.5km to the campsites on the lake, we were relieved to set up as we lost the day's light, eat and sleep.
Heading up Nicomen ridge from camp and over the Heather Trail through the meadows redeemed this trip for us. Flowers and views were wonderful- pleasant meandering hiking.
Campsite was full and then some both nights, most people hiking the entire length of the Heather. Folks were friendly, and there was lots of Supermoon viewing, fishing and swimming going on.
My company was good, weather superb, and it would take a whole lot for me to say I had a bad day out in the mountains; still, you can do better in Manning Park.
