The views and a quick group made this trip for me. The hike itself... easy to get to the lake and fairly quick but its a steady grind... about 1.5 times the grouse to be exact. The lake is stunning and we hit it on a perfect day... clear and cool. The route to Mt Cook is pretty straight forward if you follow the GPS track you will find sections that actually have a good foot bed and lots of cairns along the way to give you some direction... there are some mild scrambly bits before you gain the flattish section under the talus slope to the top. The talus... I started a new hiking meetup...check out whats coming up next!BC Peaks & Trails Hiking Group
well that is the rub here... its easy enough but killer on your knees... some sections are stable and some not... but it seems to go on for a long time (think Outram).
The peak itself cannot be seen from the lake... it is actually 30 or so minutes from what appears to be the peak when looking up from the emergency shelter area. We ended up calling it before the peak due to time and the fact we were all just sick of the talus and jagged boulders.
Have fun out there, stay safe and see you on the trails!
Regards, Rex.
