Beautiful hot day. Trail can be difficult to find if you don't have the exact directions. We've been there before and thought we would remember which roads to turn on but ended up on the wrong road. We happened upon a gorgeous lake though so it was a nice side trip. We referred to the directions and found the proper road and headed up. It's a long way up to the trail head but it's well marked and obvious once you get there. First 2-3k is somewhat steep, but once you get past the tree line
into the meadow, it is less steep. Beautiful area to explore, you can hike down to a lake or up to the old fire lookout at the summit. We opted for the summit, but you could do both and the lake area would probably be a great place to camp overnight. We like this hike because if the amazing views of the different mountain ranges and the fact that it's great for dogs. The trail is not overly difficult so also could be a good one to take novice hikers. We saw no signs of wildlife this time, but last time we hiked this trail it was early August and there was some fresh snow and fresh grizzly prints and scat. The black flies were absolutely brutal this time, take extra bug spray if you go earlier in the season when it's still hot.
