Just North of Pemberton is Joffre Lakes Provincial park and it is here you will find three beautiful turquoise blue lakes. The hike is very well known but the park has been closed and just recently reopened. With the reopening came the BC Parks Day Pass requirement. We opted to hike during a weekday to be able to obtain a day pass and to avoid crowds of hikers.
The trail is easy to follow as it is well traveled and I assume this is why there are no trail markers. The most hilly part of the trail is from the Lower Lake to the Middle Lake as it is a steady climb with several stairs. The more technical sections are past Upper Lake towards Joffre Lakes campground. It is here you will need to work your way around roots, rocks and traverse boulders.
The three lakes are all glacier fed but the upper lake is the largest and, in my opinion, the most beautiful as it is here you get a closer view of Matier Glacier. We chose to check out the campground and are glad we did. There were only a handful of people at the campground when we arrived making it feel that we had the area to ourselves. After having lunch we headed back to the parking lot the same way we came.
Just at note that as of July 1, 2021, you need to bring your own toilet paper as it is no longer being provided at backcountry locations in the Sea to Sky Corridor.
