Started from the overflow parking lot at Buntzen lake, going south and up to the black diamond mountain biking trail "Full Pull". From there it's a good trail going up all the way to the Eagle Ridge lookout where a 4x4 can be driven to. Enjoyed a quick lunch with some views, then brute forced myself through the bush to connect with the main Halvor Lunden trail that goes through the lakes. In retrospect I should have just used an established connecting trail not too far away, but for some reason thought there should be an easier way to connect.
Anyways, once on the main trail and the ridge, it is muddy, lots of exposed roots, and overall unpleasant. Snow starts just before the El Paso junction and the travel from there is mostly on snow. There is still about upto a meter of snow in places, and it will get deeper the further you go. I only went as far as Wren "lake" (more like an ugly pond). Decided it's not worth (or fun) to push further and had enough for the day. Returned back to the parking lot via the main trail, which was dry below the ridge. All in all it's a good trail to get a workout in and stretch your limbs. About a 5 hour return trip with all the breaks included.
