SUMMARY: Circle Buntzen Lake and enjoy the beautiful views of surrounding mountains. Starting at Buntzen Creek Bridge at the east side of South Beach, the trail leads north, passing several lake access points and viewpoints. After a short section along Powerhouse Road, the Buntzen Lake Trail resumes at the North Beach picnic area. From here, cross the suspension bridge to continue along the Buntzen Lake Trail or you can return along Powerhouse Road for a shorter, easier hike. The trail takes you through open areas underneath the powerline, through mature forest, across several bridges, then finally opens up onto Pumphouse Road. Follow this road south to the floating bridge across the southwest arm of Buntzen Lake. Cross the bridge and follow the trail back to South Beach.create

Even in the rain, the Bunzten lake loop is still a doable option. The trail around the lake is presently one way to encourage social distancing, and the damp weather also helped deter some hikers. Fortunately, I packed my umbrella to help me stay dry, and honestly it was probably the best decision I made.
There is some construction currently being done so water access is blocked off in the form of a blue fence. This blue fence also gets in the way of some photos, and the lake view, but I understand why it is present; better safe than sorry. Past the north beach there are sections of the trail which basically form a stream, so I would advise waterproof shoes if you wish to keep your feet dry.
Additionally, there is a notice that there was a cougar attack on an off leash dog around February 10th (I do not have the exact date). These signs are posted on the suspension bridge, and on a post just past the north beach.
