The peak 2 peak Gondola makes the approach up to the Fitzsimmons Range so much easier these days. We started our trip pretty late at around noon taking the gondola up to the Blackcomb ski area. With perfect weather we started to hike up to the 7th heaven ski lift where we arrived after about 90 minutes. We roped together and started climbing down Holzman glacier, which is extremely icy at the moment. From the bottom of the glacier it goes up again towards Blackcomb glacier and we could hear a lot of water running down underneath the ice.
We set up camp next to Blackcomb glacier and used the rest of the day to refresh some crevasse rescue skills.
The next morning we got up early and started to cross Blackcomb glacier. There are plenty of big crevasses on the upper parts and some of the snow bridges are quite thin already.
At around 10am we reached the saddle between Blackcomb peak and Spearhead Mt. and started to scramble up Blackcomb.
The view from the peak was pretty much unlimited with stunning views of Black Tusk, Overlord glacier and we could see even the Tantalus range in the far distance.
