DIRECTIONS: The Hicks Creek FSR access road wraps spectacularly around the edge of low mountains, blazing with fireweed and twisting with panoramas. And sure, with the trailhead up at 27.6km, it takes at least a full hour of driving.create

The hike is stunningly beautiful - we hiked just part of it up to the saddle, but I can't recommend it. We drove up on the forest service road in our Subaru Outback (all wheel drive), and blew not one, but three tires. There are just too many sharp rocks from small rock slides for the road to be deemed passable, for this year at least. We walked down the road 17 km without cell service, and then took the whole next day, with the help of a good samaritan (our vacation rental host) to help us get the old tires and then go back with replacements. Even our good samaritan with the F150 blew a tire and had to use a spare. Spare yourself the trouble.
