Nine of us departed Vancouver to try a new local trail. The turn off from Hwy 99 onto Lawrence Way and the Sunset Marina is well marked 5KM or so past Horseshoe Bay. There is a wide pull out at the top of Lawrence Way in which we parked. We were the only vehicle there, and 4 of our friends were able to take the #C12 bus right to the top of Lawrence, which makes this a transit-friendly hike.
Finding the trailhead is not too difficult. There is on obvious, steep road across the highway. You go up this driveway road and then go straight through the gates with signs informing you this is the watershed. Continue straight and the trail starts right between the 2 large water towers. It is well marked with an orange tag and a small sign saying "Cypress Bowl 2 hrs".
Two things are true of this trail: it is steep the whole way and it is well marked with flagging the whole way.
There is deadfall around 400m, but easy to get through it thanks to flagging. Around 460m there is a small, pleasant viewpoint. From there it is up again until you meet the HSCT near Yew Lake and can go to the Bowen Lookout.
All in all, a good exercise trail. Only about 2-5cms of snow on the trail, we were all just in boots.
