Please note, the PCT is a huge long multi country trail,.. we hiked 8 miles of it round trip.
Highway 20 in Washington State (Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest) for me is an untapped goldmine of trails. We rolled the dice and went here last minute with the plan to go to the ranger station and see what permits were left for camping (yes, even back country is permitted here, but most of it free). The only sapce were for the horse camp on the far east side of the park.
The drive here was half of the fun. Many scenic lookouts including the amazing Diablo Lake lookout pepper this road as do old school diners with some of the best pie I've ever had.
We hiked from the Bridge Creek trailhead downhill to Fireweed camp. It was a really nice well maintained trail with the only obstacles being 2 log bridge crossings that were a tiny bit tense, and some water flowing over the trail making those not wearing hiking boots a bit wet.
The trail offers a number of views of interesting picture-worthy peaks and compared to the Lower Mainland back home, these resemble more semi-arid desert features. Super impressive some of them.
The campsite was really nice and spacious (big enough to play frisbee) with a firepit and though supposedly used for horses, we saw none and there seemed to be none of the extra bugs associated with horse camps (but it was buggy).
This area bears more exploration but I think I'd turn my attention to some of the more notable trails further West first. That said it was interesting talking to the people in various phases of their PCT bagging journeys.
