I took the water taxi from Horseshoe Bay on a Friday evening which dropped me off in Halkett Bay where I pitched my tent for the evening. I woke up early and intended to summit Mt Artaban but took the wrong trail and ended up on a dirt road. As it turns out, missing the trail to Mt Artaban was a blessing in disguise as there was quite a bit of elevation gain just traversing the island from Halkett Bay. Most of the trip is deep in the woods and the trail is fairly well-marked with yellow stickers every couple hundred feet. I didn't run into another soul on the trails all day! I wandered off the path a few times and had to backtrack to find the last marker which, after 8.5 hours and 23 km, deposited me at the water taxi just as it was coming in. Long day but totally worth it!
